My story with Devi started long before I met her in person. I already followed her ministry through Lagoinha Baptist Church, where I was a member while living in Brazil. However, the first promise made by God for my family was given through Devi's life, at a Diante do Trono conference that I attended online, as I had already moved to the US. Even through the screens, I took possession of this Word:
His posterity will be known among the nations, his descendants among the peoples; all who see them will recognize them as the blessed family of the Lord. - Isaiah 61:9
It's amazing how God connects people to fulfill His dreams. When I heard this message in 2015, I wasn't thinking about coming to live in Portugal, let alone becoming a pioneer in implementing the Home Experience missionary project in this nation. And whenever I listen back to the message she delivered at that conference, I realize that everything was already there, I just couldn't see it yet.
Portugal was already a dream that God had placed in Devi's heart. That's why she was so happy when I told her I was moving here. I remember this day as if it were today: her face lit up and she was filled with joy by the news. So, I thought: at least there's someone happy that I'm moving to Portugal, and that was Devi!
And through yet another connection prepared by God, on March 10, 2016, I was in the car, going to my English class, when a dear friend called me and said:
"Bruna, remember the volunteer work I told you about? So, we're going to have a meeting next week and it's with Devi Titus, I don't know if you already know about her ministry…"
The world stopped, and in that moment, I think I froze for a few seconds. I didn't even know that Devi lived in that area, let alone that one day I would meet her in person. Can you imagine serving in this impactful ministry inside her home? Again, God! Only him!
The first time I was at Devi's house, I think my feet hadn’t reached the ground yet. Devi was a very special woman, a blessed woman who blessed other women. She inspired us to practice peace and love within our home without having to say a word. To observe her, was already a huge lesson, as she taught by example, through her attitudes.
However, I have no doubt that God himself equipped me for that time, when I was a volunteer at the Titus Home. He was the one who enabled me to become a Home Experience mentor in Portugal, and it is also He who continues to enable me to carry on this legacy with Trina now.
I was able to have the real Home Experience and it was a privilege to serve alongside Devi for almost three years. An incredible woman who built a legacy that marked generations and impacted thousands of lives around the world, including mine!
Surely her humility and teachable heart were what made her shine the brightest. Home Experience’s behind-the-scenes was the best part! Washing the dishes next to her, organizing the pantry, the garage or cleaning the wash cloths’ drawer was always an opportunity to learn from her stories and experiences shared through pleasant conversations.
She will be missed, but I'm ready to pursue the Experience of Home journey with Trina and so many amazing people around the world who are part of this "big family", for I know the One who called me!
